The Legal Affairs Commission

The Legal Affairs Commission consists of young law professionals and students from diverse European backgrounds, united by a passion for legal research, justice, and international law. We tackle a wide range of legal topics affecting the EU, with the goal of creating a platform where the legal challenges impacting European citizens can be addressed and resolved. We focus on critical areas such as the legitimacy of the European Union, the supremacy of EU law, and the alignment of EU’s actions with its foundational Treaties. By addressing these issues, we aim to reinforce legal certainty and accountability. Our commission is dedicated to ensuring that all EU policies and legal frameworks are grounded in law, promoting respect for human rights and safeguarding the rights of individuals.

What We Do

The Legal Affairs Commission is dedicated to two main branches: Legal Research and Law Compliance Support.

1. Legal Research (and Think Tank)

  • Comparative law and EU law harmonization: An essential aspect of our research involves comparative law, studying and understanding the legal systems of each EU member state. This helps us identify differences and commonalities between national laws and EU law, promoting harmonization in the interpretation and application of European legal principles.
  • In-depth studies on legal topics: We conduct comprehensive research on critical legal issues affecting the EU and its citizens, such as: EU citizenship, EU legitimacy, EU fundamental rights, data protection, environmental law, antitrust law, and cross-border legal challenges.
  • Legal policy analysis and monitoring developments in EU law: We provide critical analyses of key EU legal policies impacting legal systems in member states, focusing on real-world implications, future developments, and alignment with the EU's foundational principles. We continuously monitor ongoing legal developments in key areas, such as trade law and immigration law, ensuring that EU legal structures evolve in response to contemporary challenges and remain consistent with the EU’s core values.
  • EU legislation and ECJ rulings: Our commission offers up to date legal commentary on significant EU legislations and European Court of Justice rulings, examining legal innovations and their practical consequences for member states.

2. Law Compliance Support

  • Advisory role for other VOYCE commissions:  The commission advises other VOYCE commissions on the legal implications of their work.
  • Ensuring compliance in reports and legal texts:  We review reports, policy recommendations, and legal documents to guarantee compliance with EU law, intellectual property standards, and global law.
  • Legal guidance for VOYCE operations alongside the Head of Compliance:  Our team offers advice on matters such as contract law, EU regulations compliance, and other legal issues related to VOYCE’s activities.

Through a collaborative and research-driven approach, the Commission works to ensure that the European legal order remains firmly anchored in justice, fundamental rights, and democratic accountability.
